Dr. Sonabend is a native of Philadelphia. He traveled to Boston where he earned both his B.A. in medical science and his M.D. in 7 years as part of an accelerated program at Boston University. He was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa, was president of Alpha Omega Alpha honors society, and was awarded both of his degrees summa cum laude. He completed his medical internship at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Massachusetts, where he was named intern of the year. He moved to Houston and completed his residency in dermatology at Baylor College of Medicine. Upon completing his training, he received the Tad Johnson Award given to the most outstanding graduating resident.

Dr. Sonabend is fully board certified and is an active member of the American Academy of Dermatology, Houston Dermatologic Society, and Harris County Medical Society. He is a clinical assistant professor of dermatology at Baylor College of Medicine where he teaches dermatology residents and volunteers at Ben Taub Hospital. He has interests in medical dermatology, cosmetics, and laser surgery. He has authored over a dozen published medical papers in various aspects of dermatology and been active in clinical research with laser therapeutics. His research on laser surgery was awarded at the 2006 Texas Dermatology Association meeting. He strives to constantly stay on the cutting edge of his evolving field and has gained experience with many of the newer medical and cosmetic treatments including the Fraxel laser.

In his free time, Dr. Sonabend enjoys being a newlywed. He loves to travel, take photographs, and is also an avid tennis and racquetball player.
